Every Terrace is unique in its nature. Hence the waterproofing system would be designed to suit the conditions. There will be lot of cracks on the slab and hence they need to be treated Liquid Membrane system is more appropriate for this application.

Procedure

  • The expansion joints if existing would be treated accordingly
  • The joints between the terrace slab and the parapet wall would be treated
  • Any exposed metal rods would be cut and treated
  • The parapet wall needs to be coated upto 300 mm below the slab level on outer side also
  • Liquid membrane systems being filmy in nature can be punctured and hence needs protection
  • Brick bat Koba would act both as protection and a means to maintain the slope for draining the water out
  • Sufficient number of pipe outlets from the terrace would be ensured to drain away the water as early as it is collected

Procedure

  • The cracks needs to be treated
  • The joints between the horizontal and the vertical surfaces of the tank would be treated
  • Any exposed metal rods would be cut and treated
  • Any pipe penetrations across the podium needs to be treated
  • All the cold joints are treated
  • The crystalline coating is done for the entire surface
  • The crystalline coating forms crystals inside the concrete when reacts with water in presence of cement
  • This is called integral waterproofing as the minor surface damage does not affect the waterproofing properties
  • This material lies dormant and starts reaction whenever water is available
  • Even at a later stage, it is easy to repair by this method

Basements consist of Raft and Retaining walls. Basements are subjected to negative water pressure. Hence only crystalline waterproofing system is most appropriate. However we can do waterproofing on positive side for retaining wall but you need to leave sufficient space outside and wait for the waterproofing work to be completed before you fill up Crystalline waterproofing saves lot of time and money.

Procedure

  • Waterproofing will be simultaneously started along with the casting of the raft and retaining walls
  • Dry shake method would be adopted for Rafts
  • For Retaining walls if the thickness permits due to economic feasibility, crystalline material may be used as admix
  • Pressure release pipes would be installed in suitable number based on the water table and area and would be plugged only after sufficient dead load is created
  • The joints between the horizontal and the vertical structures of the building would be treated
  • All the tie rods would be cut and treated
  • All the cold joints would be treated
  • Honeycombing if any would be repaired with repair mortar
  • Any defects in the structure would be treated using grouting and repair mortar

Every Toilet and Bath room is different, hence the waterproofing system would be designed accordingly.

  • On walls it is recommended to protect the coating by plastering before going for tiles
  • In case of sunken portions, Brick Bata Koba will provide the protection, otherwise a base coat of at least 10 to 15 mm is required

Podiums generally being larger in area, casting is done in several phases. Hence lot of cold joints will be present. There will be lot of cracks on the slab and hence they need to be treated. The Podium is subjected to dynamic loading due to vehicular movements, hence needs more flexible coating.
